You are an investigator in a police department. You are dispatched to the scene of a recent homicide. The lead investigator assigns you to do a rough sketch of the crime scene.

This is your first exercise. It gives you practical experience in drawing a rough sketch at a crime scene. It must be drawn by hand. After drawing the sketch, submit it by scanning it and attaching it to this TRACS assignment.

You are an investigator in a police department. You are dispatched to the scene of a recent homicide. The lead investigator assigns you to do a rough sketch of the crime scene. Since the entire crime scene is contained in one room, you decide to use a variation on the baseline method in which the walls of the room form the baselines from which measurements are made.

Although a rough sketch is not drawn to exact scale, it must show everything in the right place in relation to everything else, and show correct measurements. All dimensions and distances MUST be shown on the rough sketch so it can be used as a basis for a finished evidence diagram. Draw the sketch on standard letter-sized paper (8-1/2 x 11), using the following specifications:

1. A single room 12 feet by 15 feet. Orient the room on a North-South axis, with 12-foot walls on the North and South sides and 15-foot walls on the East and West sides. DO NOT use the edges of the paper to represent the walls. Leave room for a legend to identify features in the sketch. Include an arrow indicating North.

2. Show a 3-ft door on the West wall, 2 feet from the North wall, and a 3-ft door on the East wall, 2 feet from the South wall.

3. Show a 2-ft window on the East wall, 3 feet from the North wall, and a 2-ft window on the South wall, 6 feet from the West wall.

4. Show a 3 ft x 5 ft sofa along the West wall, one foot south of the door.

5. Show a 2 ft x 4 ft coffee table, 1 ft in front of the sofa.

6. Show a pair of flip-flops between the sofa and the coffee table.

7. Show a brick of marijuana on the coffee table.

8. Show a 2 ft x 2 ft television stand against the East wall, one foot north of the door.

9. Show the body of a 6-ft-tall male lying in a North-South orientation, with the head toward the North. The head is 4 ft from the North wall and 4 ft from the East wall.

10. Show a handgun on top of the television stand.

11. Label the small items in the sketch with a letter and make a legend, or key, in the margin to identify the items.

12. Include a title block with your name, the course number and the date.
