A good way to learn to think critically about the various approaches to psychology (both historical and current) is to consider which you would pick as a favorite, or one that seems to be most in line with your own beliefs. From the list below, choose one of the following approaches to psychology:
A. behavioral psychology
B. biological psychology
C. cognitive psychology
D. social psychology
E. psychoanalytical psychology
In a good, healthy paragraph (minimum 200 words), as a reply to this message, using the approach you picked above, answer all three of the following questions:
1. What does a psychologist from this approach identify as the primary source or motivator of human thought, feeling, and behavior?
2. What does a psychologist from this approach believe is the root cause of psychological distress and behavioral disorder?
3. Does a psychologist form this approach believe it is possible to alleviate distress and improve behavior? What steps or strategies would he or she propose to help a person with a psychological difficulty?
4. Which approach to psychology do you think is the most useful in its approach to examining psychological issues, and why? Which do you think was least useful and why?
