This essay will ask you to research and write about the following questions: What does writing and/or composing in the university mean to you? How do you describe your academic writing identity? What does it mean to write and/or compose in your major? What types of writing and/or composition do you find in your major? How will you negotiate your writing identity with writing/composing in your fields of study?
This essay should be addressed as a standard academic essay and needs to include: an introduction, a strong and clear thesis statement, topic sentences, transition sentences, incorporation of your ideas and supporting sources to back up those ideas, a conclusion, and proper MLA formatting (Times New Roman, 12 point font, one inch margins, double spaced, etc.). You will use an academic tone that addresses an audience that might include your peers and students planning on studying in your fields or majors.
You will need at least four outside sources. Two of these sources need to pass the CRAAP test and be academic material researched through the library (i.e. books and/or academic journals). The other two sources can either be academic material or information found from quality websites. Be prepared to use each academic source more than once in your essay to support your ideas. You will also include a Works Cited page.
The essay length is 4-5 pages (not including the Works Cited page).
