If you are interested in reading the book, Michelle Alexander’s New York Times bestseller The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness and can be purchased everywhere books are sold. Reading the book is not a requirement for extra credit.
Extra Credit Assignment
Answer the following questions:
1. What are the similarities between Jim Crow and mass incarceration? Explain.
2. Reflect on connections between mass incarceration and your own life and community. Do you believe the ‘War on Drugs’ has/has not impacted you directly/indirectly? Explain.
3. Do you believe that colorblindness is a problem? How can you engage people in promoting change? Explain.
The assignment is worth 10 points.
