Discussion – Lesson 12; Due Friday August 7, 3:00 PM
A few years ago the American Film Institute published a list of films that they called the greatest of the century, and in 2007 they updated the list. Visit the website below and look at the list. How many of the films have you seen? (Just tell us the total number, not which ones.) Post a list of your own top five films in the Discussion for Lesson 12 (they don’t have to be from the AFI list).
I have put the list at the end of the lesson, along with the original 1997 list. Also, both lists are in a file titled AFI List in Block 12.
This is the American Film Institute’s 2007 list of the 100 Best Movies (10th Anniversary Edition), selected by AFI’s panel of more than 1,500 leaders of the American film community.

Lesson 13 Assignment: For this last assignment you are to visit an interesting building in Santa Barbara. (If you are not in the Santa Barbara area, pick a distinguished building in your area; if possible, attach a photo of it to your essay or email the photo to me.) Walk around the building, go into if you can and think about the design of the building and what makes it interesting to you and appealing in appearance. For the essay, start by identifying the building and giving it’s location. Then, describe the building briefly in your own words, using terminology you’re learned in class (identify the structural system, what is the overall style, etc.). Last, explain why you choose it and why it appeals to you, any details about the exterior and interior you think are relevant. This is not a research assignment nor is it to be a history of the building. This is to be based on your own observation. 400 words or 1.5 to 2 pages.
DO NOT WRITE ABOUT THESE THREE BUILDINGS IN SANTA BARBARA: the old Mission, the SB County Courthouse, the Arlington Theater. Anyone submitting essays about one of these buildings with not receive credit for this assignment.
Please separate lesson 12 and lesson 13, lesson 12’s discussion just need 100 words and lesson 13 must be a essay about 400-500 words.
