Statement of Purpose-Masters Degree in Economics
Having lived in a third world country, Iran, for a long duration of time, gave me a platform to witness a different type of system, interact with a new society and economy. Comparing my host country with my motherland country, it was like light and darkness: completely different. Ours being a Christian country, this was a Muslim country and whilst the economic activity in our country is agriculture, mining was the backbone of Iran’s economy. It was while in Iran, whereby I worked for a private company there, that the first urge to study economics gnawed at me. My main interest is to study in a Masters Degree in your university.
I had dreamed of many accomplishments, only for them to be pipe dreams, what a gross out! However, I promised myself I would study economics at whatever expense, though literary speaking. Like sapphire searchlights, my eyes have roved over the databases of all institutions and Hay University ticks all the boxes. I humbly write this letter to your office, hoping against hope that I will be an alumnus to that university. My aim of studying an Economics program where the subject of economics is delved deeper, a feat that I know I will only accomplish at Hay University.
Like a stone hewed from a mountain, shaped into the desired shaped and polished to a shine, I hope to make a great impact on the society after I undergo the economics program by making this a better world to live in.
I’ve learnt to plough back, giving back to the society and I have been involved in voluntary projects and I have volunteered “Think together”, an initiative of which I was a co-founder. Under the program, I helped coach kids from an elementary school who hailed from unprivileged families. At the UCI, in the elementary school, my voluntary services spanned twenty hours.
I have attended quite a number of workshops in economics such as the one held in Paris in November, 2011. On one of the open economics workshops, I met and interacted with several economics scholars and listening to their expertise in the field of economics, I could help marveling at the extent of that field. As Albert Einstein soberly pipes it,” One cannot help but in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, marvelous structure of reality…never lose a holy curiosity”, I decided to pursue this field, after recommendation from one of the scholars in the workshops, so that I could acquire what I will paraphrase from him, a perfect knowledge in the field of econometrics while will be handy when tackling stochastic numerical statistics using correct economic theory models.
I’m sure that the methodical tools that I will employ during my academic research, general guidance and assistance that will be offered by the renowned faculty of Hay University will help me become a better self like the hordes of students attracted to your university worldwide.
