Research a French speaking country of your choice and complete this written assignment according to the following instructions.
Aim
• describe the chosen French speaking country
• identify differences and/or similarities between your own country and the chosen French speaking country
• reflect on these differences and/or similarities by responding to a set of guiding questions.
Sources
• A source is any text or visual resource that will enable you to explore and reflect on the chosen French speaking country and your own country. Resources may be taken from the internet, magazines, newspapers, adverts, brochures, textbooks, films, novels, and so on.
• The sources can be in any language, but at least two of them must be in the target language.
Format
The written assignment should take the form of short responses under three separate headings in the target language:
A—DÉSCRIPTION (description)
B—COMPARAISON (comparison)
C—RÉFLEXION (reflection)
This must be followed by BIBLIOGRAPHIE (a bibliography) in standard format.
Section A: A description of the chosen French speaking country
Section B: A comparison of the differences and/or similarities between the chosen French speaking country and your country
Section C: A reflection which must include answers to all of the following questions:
• Quel aspect du pays francophone que vous avez choisi vous a étonné? Which aspect of your chosen French speaking country surprised you?
• Selon vous, pourquoi ces similarités/différences existent-elles? Why do you think these similarities/differences exist?
• Qu’est-ce qu’une personne provenant du pays francophone pourrait trouver de différent dans votre pays? What might a person from the French speaking country find different about your country?
Length:
• 200-350 words
• Students who fail to write the minimum number of words or who exceed the maximum will be deducted 2 marks from criterion E: language. If the word limit is exceeded, the assessment will be based on the first 350 words.
• Quotations can be included but will not be part of the overall word count.
• Quotations that are not appropriately referenced will be considered as plagiarism. See the IB’s policy entitled Academic honesty (July 2009) on the online curriculum centre at http://occ.ibo.org.
