Multicultural Education

MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION: “Multicultural education is an idea, an educational reform movement, and a process whose major goal is to change the structure of educational institutions so that male and female students, exceptional students, and students who are members of diverse racial, ethnic, language, and cultural groups will have an equal chance to achieve academically in school.” Banks, J. Your paper should contain the following:

• Provide a description of multicultural education. This should be in your own words and can relate to what you have learned from the course reading (Sadker, D.M. & Zittleman, K. R. (2012). Teachers, Schools, and Society (3rd ed.). New York: McGraw-Hill). Anything that you use in addition outside of these references above must be cited appropriately. Of course, you are not required to go outside of these references.

• After noting what grade (9th – 12th) and subject (Business) that you will be teaching, identify how you would integrate multicultural education accordingly. Provide at least three lessons/activities that you will employ in the classroom and provide insight to what level(s)/approach(es) will be seen in your classroom. The levels/approaches are provided by James Banks in Sadker & Zittleman (pp. 74-77). Make sure that your examples are descriptive and detailed.

• Provide information as to how you have been exposed to the different levels/approaches in your own schooling. Be sure to include what multicultural education means to you. This should be included in your conclusion.

Please write your paper so that it flows in a seamless fashion. You are writing a formal essay. Make sure that you have an introduction, body, and a conclusion.
