Please choose one of the following essay questions and write a 2-3 page essay answering the entire question. You must cite from the book and use Turabian style footnotes. Be sure to have a clear thesis.
1.In a 1984 interview, Primo Levi stated the purpose of his writing on the Holocaust by stating, “To tell the story was an end for which to save oneself. Not to live and to tell, but to live in order to tell…” With specific reference to Survival in Auschwitz, what does Levi mean by this statement? What is the purpose of telling his story of his Auschwitz experiences to the reader? Identify key selections that reveal the meaning he wants to convey about his experiences.

2.On page 27 in the chapter, On the Bottom Levi states, It is in this way that one can understand the double sense of the term extermination camp, and it is now clear what we seek to express with the phrase: to lie on the bottom. What does Levi mean by a the both the double sense of extermination camp and the phrase to lie on the bottom? How is he expanding our understanding of the purpose of Auschwitz and the experience of its victims with these two concepts?
