Go Ape Treetop Adventure: Fieldwork Experience (Final Paper)

In order to complete the requirement for RECR 350 field placement, I have completed my 180 hours of work with go ape treetop adventure course located in Rockville, MD. The primary function of this agency is to provide outdoor adventure experience services relevant to kids, families, birthday parties, bachelor/bachelorette party and team building.
Goals of the agency included:
a. To develop motivation amongst people to believe in themselves – to swap ‘I can’t’ for ‘I can’.
b. To provide adventure and encourage everyone from kids and families to young adults and corporate teams to live life adventurously.
c. To implement programmes relevant to all that are equally important to them;to be socially and environmentally responsible and create worthwhile and they’ll rewarded careers for their employees.
Agency administrative unit.

Mission statement.
From their new “Banana HQ” in Rockville, Maryland they’re plotting ways to get the whole country and world swinging through the trees. They’re , at least like to be the best tree top adventure company on the planet.
Statement of agency’s philosophy
They’re doing their part to keep the adventure in adventure. They believe that zero risk equals zero development and they’re always looking to challenge people, to surprise and excite them.
They’re also passionate about motivating people to believe in themselves – to swap ‘I can’t’ for ‘I can’. Great news is that a lot of their customers are finding this to be true of their Go Ape experience.
It’s equally important to them to be socially and environmentally responsible and create worthwhile and reward careers for their employees. In short, they just to do the right thing. Sounds a bit much, they know. But they really mean it.
The agency they try hard to be an environmentally friendly company. Rock Creek Regional Park in Rockville, MD is one of Maryland’s most valuable and beautiful environments and its in the company’s responsibility to care for this area very seriously.
All courses are friendly to wildlife. The wood chips themed in their zip line landing areas create habitats for small creatures and the undersides of their platforms have provided the perfect shelter for nesting swallows and other unperturbed birds.
The courses are designed to minimize impact on trees; nothing is bolted into trees – they theme clever braces that grip tree trunks on which their platforms rest on. The magic of the system is that they can loosen the brace as the tree grows. Their trees are inspected annually by an independent consulting botanist to ensure their health.

Special project.

My special project included me working during the St. Paddy’s Day Parade in Washington, DC on March 13, 2011. I wore a gorilla suit and handed out brochures and bananas to the crowd while walking down Constitution Ave. This really helped me understand branding and agency marketing. The attachment shows the order of the paper and the content included.

Programming.

As student completing my RECR 350 field experience with the Go Adope agency I completed a variety of activities and assignments given to me. All of the duties I had were very beneficial to me in learning about what they do and what they were striving to give to the customers. I worked as sales person in addition to sales and marketing skills, I learned how to advertise. For every program that we ran, we completed a very intense sales session including: going to the field and making kids have fun and preparing for corporate days. One of my biggest responsibilities was to ensure that plan for the day was implemented successfully. Additionally I completed my special project of working during the St. Paddy’s Day Parade in Washington, DC on March 13, 2011. I wore a gorilla suit and handed out brochures and bananas to the crowd while walking down Constitution Ave. In order to acquire a complete assessment of programming offering by the agency, I will ensure I complete all the tasks given to me within the remaining time.
Benefits acquired from the field experience included the following:
i. Development of a strong sense of individual responsibility for achieving goals.
ii. Career exploration through jobs in a variety of professional fields.
iii. Chance to develop industry-specific abilities while completing your college degree.
iv. Building professional networking contacts and mentoring relationships early.
v. Helping students to become viable experienced job applicants post graduation.
vi. Employment offers before graduation. In fact, many employers consider internship experience in the hiring process, and often look
