Paper detailsĀ

ESSAY PROMPT: Consider the subjects of SOCIAL REFORM & MORALITY as depicted in Frost’s “Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening,” “The Road Not Taken,” “Mending Wall,” & Hughes’ “A Negro Speaks of Rivers,” “I, Too,” “Dream Boogie,” and “Harlem.” What cultural ideas are common to the poems? What cultural ideas are distinct and unique? On the basis of your comparison, consider the use of poetry as a vehicle for the expression of cultural ideas that involve MORALITY and SOCIAL REFORM. In your analysis, think about your own culture and which ideas overlap as well those that are different. Brainstorm for each poem and indicate some of the possible ideas that indicate MORALITY and SOCIAL REFORM that each of the authors appears to express. In addition to the primary sources listed in this essay topic, find at least 3 other research sources that focus on the time periods when the poems were composed. These sources should help put the time periods into perspective.
