I. Formulate a research question regarding your topic.
If you are researching a person, consider this to be a character analysis. What are the contributions of the person/literary work to the classical/medieval/Renaissance Period/what role(s) did the person/work play or what impact did he or it have on the advancement/development of the body of literature? Why is the literature valuable? Answer the question in the form of a thesis statement.
II. Choose secondary sources that are relevant to your topic and review with your research question in mind: Use books and Galileo databases (Academic Search Complete, Biographical Database, JStor)

In what ways does it provide support for your thesis?
How might a particular quote or paraphrase support your thesis?
III. Decide to quote, paraphrase, or summarize.
IV. Document every quotation, paraphrase, or summary with a
citation in your text and a corresponding entry in your list of
sources cited.
V. Focus carefully on content, organization, sentence structure,

VI. Write the paper in the third person (i.e., he, she, they).
