For your third reflection, you will discuss different perspectives about how consumption fits into our lives and our culture. Within the text of your paper, address the following:
Explain the claims of Heath and Potter (Nation of Rebels) and how they conflict with those of Horkheimer and Adorno (The Culture Industry). What are the main points and counterpoints? What evidence do they each use to back up their claims? Which argument do you find the most compelling?
Once you have explored those, construct your own theory of consumption. Why do we consume the way we do? Is it helpful or harmful for us as individuals and as a culture? How could/should things be different? What would that look like?
Cite anything that is not your own thoughts, be sure to include page numbers for quotes, and a bibliography. Pay attention to the guidelines at the end of this instruction page. Your paper should be at least five but no more than seven pages in length.
