This essay is to be written in 3 parts:
1. In 500 words (minimum), explain and discuss the identity of the “everlasting covenant” in Isaiah 24:1–5. 2. In 350 words (minimum), you are to explain your understanding of the 2 cities portrayed in Isaiah 24–27. What are the different interpretive views and what do these cities represent? Defend your answer with solid evidence from the biblical text and briefly explain the significance of your understanding of these 2 cities for the overall message of Isaiah 24–27.
3. After reading the John Day article “God and Leviathan in Isaiah 27:1,” write 350 words (minimum) on the significance of the Leviathan imagery in Isaiah 27:1. In your essay, explain the background of the Leviathan imagery in this passage, what it refers to, and why the eschatological defeat of the Lord’s enemies is described in this manner. Be sure to include and interact with other passages using similar imagery from both the Old and New Testaments.

Keep quotes of both outside sources and biblical passages to a minimum, and footnote any references that you quote or cite. Biblical references must be placed in parentheses within the body of the paper and must not be footnoted.In addition to the course texts and assigned article, you must use 2 other reference sources (commentaries, journal articles, etc.) appropriate for graduate-level work and provide a bibliography of the sources used for this interpretive essay at the end of your paper.
