This paper is designed to have you utilize knowledge of public health principles in a real community. The basis of this project is viewing the community as a client.

Address all of the following in a scholarly paper consisting of 6-8 pages (excluding title page a references) supported by a minimum of 5 current (within 5 years) scholarly references. Use the scoring rubric and follow APA format.

Start with the steps below:

1. Population Identification
• Identify and describe a vulnerable population that is or could be affected by a community health problem you discovered when completing you windshield survey/community assessment.
An example would be underage drinking with the population focus on high school students.
• Describe the primary health concerns of this group using descriptive epidemiological characteristics and demographic information.
• Describe potential or pre-existing barriers that may prevent this population from obtaining needed health care services from a local, state, and national level.
2. Community Agency
• Select and contact or visit a community resource or agency that the population you identified could utilize.
• Discuss how contact was made with the agency.
• Describe the mission and outreach activities this service agency provides.
• Identify the type of funding received and discuss how funding influences the agency’s ability to meet the needs of this vulnerable population.
• Discuss the effectiveness of the agency in meeting the needs of this vulnerable population.
3. Role of the Community Health Nurse
• Describe the community health nurse’s diverse roles in advocating for this vulnerable population on a regional and national level.
• Select two of the following issues: socioeconomic, ethical, legal, political, and regulatory and discuss how they affect the health care needs of this vulnerable population.
• Discuss the leadership strategies the community health nurse uses to deliver accessible, cost-effective, safe, quality care in addressing this vulnerable population.
4. Reflection
• Reflect on your experience with the windshield survey/community assessment and the population you selected.
• Discuss the effect this experience has had on your own personal attitudes about vulnerability and advocacy.
5. Scholarly Writing
• The introduction identifies the vulnerable population you selected, and explains the purpose of the paper.
• The conclusion summarizes important points made in the body of the paper.
• Paper is well written organized, and within the page limitation (6-8 pages).
• Grammar, spelling, punctuation are correct.
• Conforms to APA standards for headings, citations, and reference page.

Reference Page: Must conform to APA guidelines. Remember that each reference listed must be cited in your paper and every citation in the paper must be listed on the reference page.

• All references cited within the paper and on the reference page must adhere to APA guidelines
• You may use the headings from this outline when writing your paper
