Instructor’s instructions:
For this project, you will write an evaluation of a creative work: a novel, movie, music CD, live performance, etc. Your evaluation should include all the basic components of an argumentative essay: introduction/ thesis, body/ supporting evidence, opposing opinions/ refutation, and concluding statement. Your introduction should include a mention of the work you will be evaluating, the category in which it belongs, the criteria by which you are judging it, and a thesis statement which states whether or not your subject meets those criteria. The body of your paper should elaborate on the criteria and show specific details as to how the piece either meets or does not meet that particular criterion (i.e., specific quotes from a novel or movie, song lyrics from a CD, etc.). You will need to research at least one review of the same piece whose opinion conflicts with your own and provide an appropriate refutation. Your conclusion should sum up your discussion of how well (or how poorly) the piece meets your criteria and whether or not you would recommend it to your audience.

Essays should follow standard MLA format: typed, double-spaced in a legible 12-point font such as Times New Roman or Arial, with 1-inch margins on all four sides. Essays should be a minimum of 4 pages in length.

Your heading should be located in the upper left corner of the first page and should read as follows:

Your name
Course and Section #
My name (Donna Maxwell)
Paper due date

After the heading, double-space and center your title, double-space again and begin your essay. Do not include a cover sheet or put your paper in a folder, binder, or anything else. Just staple it in the upper left corner.

A thesis/ topic in which you will state the work you will be reviewing, how you are categorizing it, and the criteria you will be using. This is an extra piece that I have to provide by 3/18. If the paper is’nt complete by then, I will request just that information in an email. The paper in all inst due until 4/3.
