Sample Response
**SAMPLE REPLY FOR THE WEEKLY READING ASSIGNMENTS**

Your reply should look very similar to this one.

READING 1: Module 1
Item A: Five categories of users

Item B: There are five categories of computer users, which include Home, Small office/home office (SOHO), mobile, power, and large business. Each user has different software and hardware requirements based on their needs (Module 1).

Item C: The topic is discussed in Section IV: Networking Computer Systems in Module 1.

Item D: The most important information I have gained from this chapter would be the information provided about the five categories of users. Even though each user has different requirements, it’s interesting to note that each of them has use for Web browsing and e-mail software and PDAs or smart phones. The Categories of Users table in Section IV was very useful to me in illustrating the five categories of users. I would consider myself a home and large business user since I use a desktop at home and networked desktop at work. I think it is safe to say that most people could be more than one type of user.

TASK 2: (Re: Syllabus)
I was a little confused in terms of assignment due dates. Could you explain when each project is due and how much each is worth in terms of our overall grade?

Week 6 Due Date
NOTE 1: This discussion will be closed July 10, 11:59:59 PM (ET). You will not be able to reply or receive credit after that date and time. Please answer each question for full credit. Please post your answer in the conference and not as an attachment.

Re: The Quality of Your Response
Your reply must prove to me that you have read the material. The following sample responses are not sufficient:

1. I didn’t know how interesting home networks are.
2. I had no idea that there were so many types of computers.
3. I am now very knowledgeable about light VTCs.
4. Biometrics are very cool.

When I read your reply, I will ask myself, “Could someone have written this without reading the chapter?” If the answer is no, then your reply needs some work.

NOTE 2: Class Participation is worth 20% of your final grade in this course.

You only need to post ONCE per week, but please revisit the conference during the week to (1) follow the discussion, (2) respond to a follow-up question(s) posed by a fellow student, (3) post additional comments, or (4) to address a problem in your initial reply as directed by your instructor.

Common Mistakes and Sources for Point Deductions
Students in previous semesters lost points for the following:
1. Reply was not made before the deadline, resulting in a grade of zero for the week.
2. Reply was not complete–for example–a student may fail to respond to all readings–somehow missing one or more.
3. Reply was not properly cited. If you include a direct quote or make references to textbooks or other resources, you are required to include the name of the source and the page reference(s) (e.g. p. 26, Discovering Computers).
4. Reply was not properly formatted–Item labels (A, B, C, and D) were not included.
5. Repeating what was already stated in an earlier reply by another student.
6. Reply was created in MS Word and attached to the conference. All replies are required to be typed or cut-and-pasted into a WebTycho text box.
