Discuss on gender, ethnicity and socio-economic class and how these factors influence how we think of older adults

For this assignment you will need to incorpoarte three things: (1) sociology of aging (2) a Story and (3) a reflection on your family of origin and its “culture” around aging and older adults.

HOW TO:

(1) Read and understand the sociology of aging on pages 203-217 (Worlds of Difference)(recall class discussion on gender, ethnicity and socio-economic class and how these factors influence how we think of older adults).

(2) Select a family diversity story (p.221-261) from Worlds of Difference: read and understand the story.

(3) Next, think about your own family of origin (Grandparents/Mother & Father, Siblings, Aunts and Uncles) and what your family culture conveyed about getting older and older adults.

Now, using the language in the sociology section (gender, class, race, etc.) along with the Story, compare and contrast your Family expereince with your selected Story. Pull this together in three or four well thought-out, complete, and well-developed paragraphs.
