research Proposal Free Writing:
As you begin drafting a proposal for your research project, it is important that you spend some time thinking thoroughly and critically about a few issues we have discussed in class regarding monstrosity and food.
According to reading, class discussion, or your own interests, what particular subject, theme, discussion, problem, or claim fascinates or intrigues you about food or monstrosity?
Spend a few minutes writing about this idea.
After you have written about this issue, spend some time thinking of ways in which you could form your interest into a question that will guide your hunt for knowledge as you begin research.
You might consider what is already known or claimed about the topic and what you need to do to fill the gaps in this knowledge. Who does this issue effect? Why does it need to be written about? What have other authors written about the topic and where do you see yourself exploring further?
Based on your interests, what question would you like to explore?
Keep in mind that the answer to this question will ultimately become your guiding thesis statement, but this question and its response might change as you dig deeper into your topic and question why and how it needs to be explored.
The proposal is a tentative plan. 1-2 pages long. It includes a statement of the particular issue you intend to address, and your specific research question. You should indicate why you wish to pursue this topic, how you will gather information, and who you target audience is. Your plans may change as your research process begins, and that is fine. However, if you completely switch gears, you will need to discuss your new topic with me.
