Directions for the Hum 2230 Final Essay due April 16

Trace the cultures we have studied from the Baroque through the 20th Century. For each culture pick one artist, (or philosopher, composer, or architect, or writer from that time period) and choose one of his/her works to illustrate how this work represents that style. To get an A, include the following: for each style, write one paragraph incorporating the following parts:

1) opening sentence of each paragraph: describe the historical (example: the Catholic Counter-Reformation Baroque is an attempt to gain back the believers the Catholic church had lost to the Protestant Reformation)

2) describe the characteristics which define the style and choose ONE representative artist OR writer, composer, philosopher, architect, etc. from this time period

3) describe how one particular work by this artist represents this style/era.

You can use the suggestions I’ve made in parentheses or you can choose your own.

• Conclusion: Write about one idea you have come across in this course which has helped you understand humanity in general and yourself in particular. This might be from the readings, lectures, class discussions or quotations used to take attendance.

This essay should represent your best academic writing. Sentence structure, neatness, correct grammar, spelling and subject accuracy count. Your paper needs to be written IN YOUR OWN WORDS (plagiarism results in an F), using MLA style, double space, typed, stapled with cover sheet which includes your name, Course plus section number. Also submit it electronically on Blackboard under “SafeAssign” by 11:30 p.m. on April 16. According to Department Policy, is necessary to turn in the final essay to pass the course. Outside sources need to be cited in a separate Bibliography.
