TOPIC: VIOLENT BEHAVIOR AS AN EFFECT OF CHILD ABUSE

THESIS STATEMENT: ARE CHILDREN WHO ARE BROUGHT UP WITHIN ABUSIVE FAMILIES MORE LIKELY TO ENGAGE IN VIOLENCE BEHAVIOR COMPARED TO CHILDREN WHO ARE BROUGHT UP IN NON-ABUSIVE FAMILIES? (need data to prove point)

I. Introduction

A. The case of child abuse has been prevalent in various parts of the world and the repercussions have led to the juveniles engaging in violence later in their lives.

B. the need to study the reasons behind violence is of importance and this is the purpose tof this study.

C. There have been previous studies concerning the same topic and they have c ome up with conclusion that there exists a positive correlation between child abuse and the violent behavior adopted by the children.

II. Method

A. Hypothesis

1. Children who are subjected to abuse when they are young result to being delinquent in future.

2. The level of abuse they are exposed to determines how much violent they will become in the later lives.

3. Post traumatic stress is a major contributor towards the children seeking solace in violent behavior.

4. Drug abuse and other forms of delinquency are as a result of the abuse the children could have been exposed to during their up-bringing.

B. Quantitative research

1. Various researchers have investigated the issue of violence and have dated it back to their child ages where they were exposed to abuse

2. Child abuse could be an act of parents – both biological and foster parents, peers and other adults who have been part of the children’s lives.

3. The study encompasses various aspects of child abuse and the consequences they have had until they lead to violent behavior.

4. The study utilizes other studies of sociologists who have looked into the issue in the recent past to identify how the variables have been of impact in the contemporary world

III. Results

A. Physical abuse, sexual abuse and neglect act as the largest aspects of child abuse (Gallagher, 2001).

1. In physical abuse, a large percentage of cases involve those in which the children are caught between domestic violence or where they are used as scape-goats for their guardians’ actions; these leads to retaliation where they want to avenge for the misdeeds (Gallagher, 2001).

2. Sexual abuse occurs in such a way that the offender uses their power to conceal their evil deeds and the child grows hatred which later turns out to violence owing to the trauma.

3. Neglect occurs when the children’s needs are ignored and in some cases they are left out on themselves and they hence result to violent behavior owing to the hostility of their environments.

4. Teenage pregnancy also turns out to be a major result of child abuse and complements violent behavior (Gallagher, 2001).

B. Inadequate parental care and harsh treatment

1. The amount of parent care offered to children who turn to violent behavior is dismal.

2. Harsh treatment by adults at school, home or elsewhere leads to delinquent and violent behavior (Gallagher, 2001).

3. Manipulative parenting is also a cause of violent behavior.

IV. Discussion

A. Recommendations

1. As most of the researchers have observed, it is important for legal structures to be constructed to curb child abuse as it is a leading cause of violence.

2. The physical, social and psychological needs of children need to be put into perspective so as to fill the space through which they would get into violent behavior.

3. The role of professionals in the lives of children in such areas as early school and health should be well played to wipe out any chances of the development of violent behavior.

4. There should be systems in place to identify children’s vulnerability and intervene before things get out of hand.
