you will locate several important concepts in the readings and spend as much time needed to understand and articulate the definitions of key concepts. You must put the concepts in your own words. Quality is more important than quantity here. You should demonstrate that you are able to articulate what the concepts really mean and why they are important. Also, discuss how an understanding of the terms you choose helps you to comprehend the key ideas in the texts.
You could begin with one’s that you already know. For example, we have discussed in class Silko and Leopold’s definition of the land and landscape. You could look at words like ethics, ecology and ecological conscience in Leopold’s article. You could then look at the Daly article and explain what Daly means by “full world” economics, uneconomic vs. economic growth, growth vs. development, well-being.
You should also consider the definitions of sustainability from the EPA, IISD and the HBR blog.
