Research/Term Paper Project Guidelines Due Date: Final Exam Week
Part I: The Paper
1. Papers must be a minimum of 9 pages, typed, double-spaced. Please do not exceed 12 pages!
2. See the rubrics guideline on Blackboard for complete instructions regarding format. In order to receive full credit you must adhere to the guidelines.
3. This paper is worth 40% of your final grade.
4. Due Dates:
a. One paragraph typed description due Thurs. Oct 23
b. Preliminary bibliography due: Tues. Nov. 4
c. Research paper outline due: Fri. Nov. 14
d. Research paper draft due: Tues. Nov. 25
e. The final paper is due: Mon. Dec. 8 You may turn it in earlier!
Part II: Sources
You must use at least 8 formal, professional sources. Six of these must be full length books or scholarly articles published in professional journals found in hard copy at libraries other than ours, or via e-journal databases. You may use more than eight sources. You should use primary sources where appropriate and/or relevant. The necessity of using primary sources may depend on the topic.
Encyclopedia websites like Wikipedia are not acceptable as cited sources, and you will not get credit if you cite them. Also, short pieces about your topic published on .com websites are probably not acceptable. If you are uncertain about a source, ask me.
Since the MCPHS library has a limited collection, you should see the reference librarian for assistance obtaining books through interlibrary loan or at one of the Fenway colleges in our consortium. You may also find googlebooks.com to be a useful resource. Do not wait until the last minute to find book sources!
If it is appropriate for your topic, you may use oral history interviews as sources. Books/articles are still required. If you want to use interviews, see me to determine additional sources.
