What aspect of empirical reality are you isolating or pinpointing with this concept? What is included or not in this definition? Describe your topic here as well here. Be selective, but comprehensive. Summarize and introduce the topic to your reader. Set the context by providing relevant information, facts and statistics as well as information about how others have studied your topic. As part of this section, you must identify and provide citations to two scientific studies (not covered in this course) that speak to your topic.
Second (2-3 pages), connect sociological concepts you have learned in this course to your topic to help explain some aspect(s) theoretically. For example, what social structures or institutions impact your topic? What role does culture or the socialization experience play? Are there socioeconomic differences in how your topic (e.g. anorexia) is expressed or treated? You must apply five different sociology concepts to your topic in this section. Clearly indicate each of these by highlighting the concept in the text. You may apply more than five concepts in this section, but you will only receive credit for the first five highlighted in the text.
