Consolidating Professional Practice
Masters Level (CP3D)
Unit Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1.Consolidate their learning post qualification with a critical understanding and awareness of key concepts of critical thinking, critical analysis, critical reflection and reflexivity and their relationship to practice and supervision
2.Develop a systematic understanding and critical awareness of the application of critical analysis and empirical based evidence in relation to law, policy, practice guidance and research
3.Critically understand and apply the use of evidence and research in relation to professional decision making and the assessment of service users.
4.Critically analyse concepts of strength, resilience, vulnerability, risk and resistance in the protection and safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children.
5.Critically evaluate their professional development in line with TCSW
Professional Capabilities Framework level descriptor.
Summative Assessment Task
The summative assessment which will be formally assessed and contribute to the credits awarded for this unit of study, is designed to assess your knowledge and application to practice situations within a defined practice area.
Summative Assessment Task
Write a critical analysis of a case or part of a case that you are currently working on, or have worked on in the last 6 months. Within this critical analysis you should include:
Critical analysis of the relevant professional knowledge and evidence base used in assessment and decision making within the case or part of the case;
Critical analysis of your application of relevant professional knowledge and evidence base in the case or part of the case, with an evaluation of outcomes and /or effectiveness;
Critical analysis of your professional role and practice, and the impact of this on the service users and/or carers in the case or part of the case.
The summative assessment should be no longer than 4,000 words and should include references to relevant academic sources and use the Faculty Harvard Referencing Guide. The description of your case or part of the case should be contained in an appendix to your assignment. This appendix should be no more than 500 words on length
I require the writer to write the first part of this critical analysis (first bullet point).
The case/family I was working with was primarily centred around child neglect.
This should consist of approx 2200 words and should include the definitions of neglect (Emotional/Psychological, Physical, Social) , what the research tells us about neglect (historical & recent), the key themes & are they tested/contested notions, the related theories & what the gaps/limitations are .
Please also include research around brain development/neuroscience in relation to neglect.
I would hope that as many pieces of research as poss can be used/discussed & referenced (around 10/15).
If this could be completed in 6/7/8days that would be better.
I hope to achieve a pass mark between 60-69% and have included the grading criteria below.
The pass mark at Masters level is 50%.
Grade and Percentage Mark
Criteria
70
To pass within this range, the student must not only clearly meet all the criteria for a pass, but do so while demonstrating:
the ability to integrate a wide range of different kinds of knowledge from within and outside the practice/discipline area
high levels of debate
Highly developed skills of critical analysis
The ability to exercise independent judgement in an informed and critical way
Evidence of original thought and generation of new ideas
The ability to sustain innovative work and to handle information in novel ways
60-69
To pass at this level the student will have met the specific learning outcomes fully and will have met the following criteria well:
interpreted the instructions provided to produce a critical and balanced review of the issues;
organised and structured arguments based on their own independent study
used appropriate resources and quotes in supporting arguments, referencing all sources correctly
provided evidence of a wide range of relevant and up to date reading material and used this in the arguments presented
demonstrated the interaction between academic input and practitioner/subject issues
provided not only an understanding but also an application of course work and private study together with a critical analysis of practitioner/discipline experience
make informed judgements, about conclusions to be drawn from the findings of their own independent study, in relation to their area/field of practice/study generally
integrated understanding of course work with a critical review of practice/field, in a manner original to their own professional/academic experience
knowledge and understanding will be informed by the forefront of the discipline and although some gaps in knowledge and understanding may be demonstrated, they will not be crucial to the field of study
demonstrate a level of debate relating to the issue under discussion, rather than having merely presenting a balanced case for a given position in relation to this issue.
For an assignment to gain a mark of:
60 it clearly meets all the criteria well
50 it will meet all criteria but with limitations with respect to 2
40 it will meet all criteria but with limitations with respect to more than 2
50-59To pass at this level the student will have met the specific learning outcomes and will have met all criteria above but with limitations with respect to 2
45 49
Marginal Fail
This piece of work either fails to adequately meet the learning outcomes or lacks organisation to the extent that interpretation is difficult.
There may be little critical analysis and/or argument demonstrated. Gaps in knowledge and understanding are likely to be evident.
There may be sparse coverage of relevant information with substantial amounts of irrelevant and/or inaccurate information
Key points of information are missed and there is superficial coverage of remaining information
Lack of supporting evidence and inadequate use made of literature
There may be profound misunderstanding of the task and of information demonstrated. It will meet all criteria but with limitations with respect to more than 2.
