For this discussion: 1) Glance through chapter 9-11: in the required text book: Hergenhahn, B.R., Olson,M.H. (2011). An introduction to theories of personality (8th ed). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Pearson-Prentice Hall. “Make sure it’s the correct book please”…Tips for Discussion posts.. this will help you know what to include; 2) make sure you all answer the questions correctly; 3) be specific; 4) provide you own opinions and the logic that backs them up as well as examples; 5) check your grammar, and spelling, do not copy or paste, do not use Wikipedia, do not plagiarize; 6) I need at least 3 paragraphs; 7) references the required textbook as well as any other references and the page numbers where you find the information relating to the materials in the textbook and if you use paraphrase a sentence please site the authors; and 8) I need a good attention getter, an interesting middle and I great closer, “and most importantly after the conclusion I need you to make up one question pertaining to the materials that you wrote or from the textbook so that the students who respond to my post will be able to answer the question”; and I need this discussion to flow with compassion and written professionally thanks. The assignment goes as follows:
For our Discussion Board this week:

1. Compare and contrast Social-Cognitive theory with Skinner’s ‘radical behaviorism’. Specifically address assumptions regarding the following areas, and provide examples to illustrate your points:
a) mechanisms for ‘learning’ from the environment
b) the role of inner causes of behavior such as cognitions, emotions, and beliefs
c) the role of reinforcement

2. Chapters 9 and 11 both note the importance of the ability to delay gratification, as well as our tendency to opt for smaller, immediate rewards rather than target for larger, future benefits. Contrast the approaches for encouraging delayed gratification that are suggested by radical behaviorism vs. social-cognitive theory, providing examples.

3. The concept of reciprocal determinism explains the continual interaction of environmental or situational variables, person variables, and behavior.
a) Discuss and provide examples of how an individual’s physical characteristics, interaction style, and social status might influence how others react to them. (As the saying goes, it is easier to like a baby that ‘coos’ than a baby that cries 🙂
b) Discuss and provide at least 2 examples of how a person’s beliefs about themselves, as perceived self-efficacy, might influence how they interact with the environment, and how others may, in turn, may react to them.

4. The concept of observational learning, or modeling, has significant implications for parenting effectiveness. As another saying goes, a child may do what parents say, but they will do what parents do. In your opinion, what are a few of the most important characteristics or values a child can learn from what influential adults in their life model?
