Answer the following questions. You will be using the material from the two readings about slavery and the slave trade, the PowerPoint lecture about slavery, and the film Goree: Door of No Return.

1. Based on the lecture and the reading entitled \”Slavery in Africa,\” what purpose do you think slavery served within Africa? Provide one quote from the reading that informs your answer. Why were Africans enslaved by other Africans? Do you think it was a similar system to slavery in the Americas? Explain your answer. (5 pts)
2. Africans helped facilitate the Atlantic slave trade, which is something some people find difficult to understand. Based on the lecture and the reading entitled \”Africa and Europe before 1900,\” discuss the roles Africans played in the operation of the slave trade. Provide one quote from either the PowerPoint or the reading that informs your answer. Why do you think some Africans helped facilitate the slave trade? Explain your answer. (5 pts)

3. Summarize the Underdevelopment Theory, making sure to include the major points of the argument. Given what you have read and watched this week, do you believe Rodney was correct when he argued that the Atlantic slave trade created a disruption in Africa\’s progress and contributed to its underdevelopment? Explain your answer. (5 pts)
