2) In the 1990s, many Americans looked at Los Angeles, California, as an indication of where the United States was heading with regard to tensions over race, ethnicity, and immigration. Using the document titled “Proposition 187” and the essay by George Sanchez titled “Race, Immigration, and Nativism” (both in Major Problems chapter 13), assess how important fears of immigrants were in California during the 1990s and especially during the riots that plagued the city in 1992. Was a fear of immigrants more important than race in provoking the deadly riots?
