An inconvenient truth
The following are counterarguments refuting several aspects of Al Gore’s case.
The biggest weakness in Al Gore’s case is that of all people, he [Al Gore], a renowned politician, is the one who had to present the information. While he is a notable leader, he could have let other people who are non-politicians do it. The reason behind this is because between Liberal audience and Conservative audience will have contradicting responses. Quite a number of Liberal audiences will embrace every idea and word by Al Gore. On the contrary, strict Conservatives would not heed any word of Al Gore as they view it as a Liberal political tactic whose main aim is to take over global key and beneficial industries from which a lot of hard-working employees get a living from. Thus, no matter how many facts that are tabled by Al Gore, a famous politician, they will elicit a political backlash.
In the An Inconvenient Truth film, Al Gore brings the idea that the cause of global warming is the emission of carbon dioxide. However, science just doesn’t know the cause of the planet warming, if it is warming. In an article titled Bad Astronomy and with a question Is global warming solar induced? The article was edited by a renown astronomer. There was a story carried there that claimed that it is not only planet Earth that is undergoing global warming but also others among them Pluto, Triton (a Neptune’s moon), Mars and Jupiter. Thus the speculation about the cause of global warming by scientists is the Sun and not human activities. To support that science doesn’t know that it’s the cause of the Sun; planets such as Venus and Mercury aren’t reported about as being caused by the Sun to warm, “the scientists won’t report it because there is nothing to report.” Even after studying other planets such as Mars, as Nancy (2009) in her article Large Quantities of Methane Being Replenished on Mars, the scientific viewpoint is filled with speculations, such as a report by NASA where “the plumes were emitted…perhaps because permafrost blocking cracks and fissures vaporized.” Thus since it isn’t only the Earth that’s warming up, science doesn’t know the cause of global warming as Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth endorses.
