Read the first paragraph of chapter 4. it contends that “language is one of humankind’s greatest achievements” Respond to this statement; below are some questions you can consider.

1. What is human language? How do you think human language relates to other types of communication? How does it relate to thought?

2. How has your own language (languages/dialects) played a role in your life? How does it affect who you are today?

3. How can language be used to manipulate or build up?

4. How do you see language shaping the world around you?
