  • Instructions:
    Choose one country you wish to visit in the future that you have not already been to. It can be any country in the world with the exception of: USA, Canada and Mexico. In answering these questions, please create either a 4 page paper presentation. Along with the paper or PowerPoint, you are also to construct a brochure for your travels that sum up your research. For the paper, there is to be a title page and a works cited page (not a part of the 4 pages). The brochure will cover main points you touch on within your paper or PowerPoint in describing your travels and what actions you take to travel. In creating the paper or presentation and brochure, you are going to be thorough in your research for your travels in terms of the following:
    1. History of the country you are visiting.
    2. The culture of the country you are visiting.
    3. Geographical influences and their relevance to your travels.
    4. Financial dedication in traveling to the country you choose.
    5. Laws and other restrictions that pertain to you as an international traveler.
    6. Explaining to me, the reader/audience, why you are traveling to the country you choose, what are the best aspects of the country, how to prepare for travels, and what restrictions are in place in the traveling.
    The first portion of the paper will discuss the technicalities of the country you choose. The history, culture, and geographical information of the country will be discussed in this portion and will assist in your defending as to why you chose the country you are traveling to. Utilize the following questions as “guides” in conducting your research when constructing the first portion of your paper
    1. When was your country founded?
    2. Who founded your country (ethnic background)?
    3. What is the climate of the country you choose?
    4. How does the climate affect you and your travels?
    5. How does the climate sculpt the culture of the country?
    6. What type of government is ruling the country you choose?
    7. How does the government influence your travels?
    8. Are there any cultural restrictions you need to be mindful of in your travels? What are they?
    Now that you have conducted the “technical” research of your country, it is time to discuss why you have chosen your country and how you plan to “survive” your visit. The following questions will assist you in forming your arguments as to why your chose your country. These questions will also assist you in describing what you plan on doing in preparation before departure, how you will adapt to the country, what you plan on doing in the country, and how you will live while in the country. You will utilize your answers from the research portion to assist you in answering these questions.

    2. What do you hope to gain from your experience?
    a. Are you visiting family?
    b. Do you want to experience another culture? Why?
    3. What specific city or cities do you plan on staying in?

    4. What steps can you take to prepare yourself for the trip mentally?
    a. What resources are available to you as a student at UD?
    b. Do you feel you will be stressing about the trip? Why or Why Not?
    c. What would you be most likely to stress about?
    5. How will you overcome the language barrier?
    a. What languages are spoken in the country you have chosen?
    b. What resources do you have to assist you in overcoming the language barrier?
    6. How will you determine how much money to bring with you?
    a. What is the currency in the country you have chosen?
    b. What is the exchange rate from US Dollars to the local currency?
    c. Why are you brining the amount of money you are?
    7. What will you do in case of an emergency?
    a. Will you carry medical insurance?
    b. Will your insurance work overseas?
    c. Who will be a person of contact in case of an emergency? Why?
    8. What steps do you take in informing your bank that you are leaving the country?
    a. Who do you contact?
    b. What information do you tell that person?
    c. Does your bank charge for international charges?
    9. Do you need any special visa to enter the country?
    a. If so, what type?
    b. What steps are involved in obtaining the visa?

    a. Is the country safe to visit?

    c. If there are restrictions, how does this affect your travels?
    12. What is the name and location of the US ambassador to the country you have chosen?
    a. Why is it important to know the US Ambassador?
    b. How can a US Ambassador assist you during your travels?
    13. What is the climate/time of year like where you are going?
    a. What time of year are you going?
    b. Will the temperature/time of year determine what you pack? How so?
    c. What will you pack? Why?
    14. What is your plan of action in case of a natural disaster?
    a. How can you prepare for a natural disaster?
    Now that you have constructed your paper or PowerPoint, it is time to construct the actual itinerary that you plan to follow on your adventure. This itinerary does not need to be in paragraph form, but there are to be complete sentences utilized in an outline format. Within this itinerary, you will be pulling some information from your paper or PowerPoint, but other information you will have to research further. There is no page/slide restriction for the itinerary portion, as long as you answer all the questions below.

    The 2 week itinerary for your visit which should include (in the following order):

    a. Cost of airline tickets for coach seats on three separate airlines.
    b. In researching the cost, choose the three cheapest fares.
    c. Will it be cheaper to purchase a round-trip ticket or purchase two one-way tickets?
    d. What airport will you be flying out of in the US?
    e. How will you get to the US airport?
    f. What airport will you be arriving in?
    g. How will you get from the airport to your hotel or hostel?
    i. How much will this transportation cost you?
    h. What is the cancellation policy for your tickets?
    i. How long will the flight be?
    j. Will there be layovers involved?
    k. How many layovers will you experience?
    l. What luggage restrictions are there?
    i. How many pieces of check luggage can you have?
    ii. How many pieces of carry-on luggage can you have?
    iii. What is the policy on liquids for check luggage?
    iv. What is the policy on liquids for carry-on luggage?
    v. What are the weight restrictions for check luggage?
    vi. What are the weight restrictions for carry-on luggage?

    2. Hotel/Hostel Options
    a. For this section, you are going to compare and contrast the prices of regular hotels against hostels
    b. Research some popular, but in-expensive hotels in the city you wish to stay during your visit
    c. Next, research some hostels in the same area
    d. How much does it cost per night for both the hotel and the hostel?
    e. What amenities does the hotel and the hostel offer?
    f. What type of rooms are offered?
    i. Does room type have an effect on cost?
    ii. What is the cost difference?
    g. Why did you choose this specific hotel/hostel?
    i. Does the location seem good?
    ii. Is it a cost factor? Why or Why not?
    h. What differences do you notice between US hotels and foreign hotels/hostels?
    i. What differences do you notice between the hotels and the hostels you researched?

    3. Tourist Destinations
    a. Choose at least 8 specific tourist destination spots within the country you wish to visit
    i. Provide a brief description of the destination. (What is it? Why is it popular? How long has the destination been around?)
    ii. How much does it cost to visit each destination?
    iii. Is there an entrance fee or any other kind of fees associated with the destination?
    iv. What is there to do at the destination (i.e. tours)?
    v. What is your reasoning for visiting this destination?
    vi. How will you get to these tourist destinations?
    vii. How much will the transportation cost to each destination?
    4. External Travel
    a. You are going to choose a neighboring country or city to visit while you are abroad.
    b. You will be in this alternative country or city for at least one night

    General Brochure Guidelines
    1. For the brochure portion of the project, you are simply taking all of the information you have compiled in the itinerary and the general paper or PowerPoint and condensing it into a simplified version.
    2. The first page of the brochure is the cover. This portion of the brochure does not cover much information other than basics.
    a. If you utilize a Word Template, it is stated what information is to go where, you are to follow the instructions on the template as it is stated.
    3. Title the Brochure appropriately to the country and city the brochure is going to cover
    a. Come up with an impressive and eye catching “tag line” for the front of the brochure.
    4. The Back Panel of Brochure
    a. This is the first page an individual views once they open the brochure
    b. This is another great place to incorporate pictures that capture the essence of the city/country
    c. Utilize one panel to cover the history of the country
    d. This is not to be long and wordy. Keep it to the point!
    5. Inside the brochure
    a. Here is where you explain flight, hotel, and transportation information.
    b. You also want to use this space to discuss potential tourist destinations.
    c. Use the inside panels to introduce your country and city.
    6. Ensure that all headings are appropriate to what is discussed
    a. Each heading should contain at least a full paragraph following it.
    7. Make sure to incorporate pictures, but not too many
    General Paper Guidelines
    1. Follow general MLA or APA citing formatting
    2. Font should be one of the following
    a. Times New Roman (12 point.)
    b. Calibri (11 point.)
    3. Paper should have one inch margins
    4. All typed text should have double spacing
