Metaphor:
The role of advanced practice registered nurses is like a great ship on the ocean. We can travel freely upon it and there are many possible routes and destinations. There will always be some outside forces, such as currents, storms, and reefs, to be dealt with, but we still have the choice to sail our ship where we want it to go; in other words, we can choose whatever future we want if we are willing to work with a purpose and within the knowledge and constraints of outside forces.
