The second assessment requires students to critically review a key piece of literature contextualised within the current environment with respect to evidence, policy and practice. You will be given a series of articles to choose from. Students are required to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the research topic covered, analyse the methodology for appropriateness and evaluate practice implications and generate appropriate recommendations for action based upon this. You must then write one review of 2,000 words. See separate guidance on BREO for more detail.
Length of work
10% more or less than the word count states is acceptable. If assignments go above or below the limit, this will be taken into account in the marking, resulting in a lower grade. Reading lists/bibliographies are not included in the word count. An accurate word count must be included.
Material from practice and client confidentiality
As this module is firmly related to professional practice, the use within the assignment of brief case examples and other material derived from real life to support or illustrate the arguments you make may be appropriate. However, it is of course vital that confidentiality be maintained at all times through the use of initials, fictitious names and addresses or such other methods as may be appropriate in each case. The methods used to protect confidentiality should be described.
Additional notes:
As with ALL your written assignments, you must use the Harvard system of referencing to cite your sources in the body of your paper.
Remember good written communication is about structuring your work so that your discussion is clearly signposted and developed and you guide the reader logically from one section/subsection to the next.
No more than 5 –10% of the assignment should be in the form of quotations.
Proofread and edit your work before handing it in and/or ask a trusted person to read it through for you.
Your work (for assignment 2) must be word processed, double spaced and page numbered. You must also include a word count.
Remember you need to submit one electronic version via Turnitin.
