For your term paper, you will research an issue about computing and society that you are initially undecided about. In your paper,
you will take a position on that issue and support that position. (One way to look at the term paper is that you are trying to
elaborate the section headings you gave in part 2. You can change headings as you see fit, but it might be a useful guideline.)
Goals for your term paper (adapted from http://ic.ucsc.edu/~ggilbert/envs122/FinalPaper.htm): “Your topic should be
focused enough to cover well in the allotted space, but general enough that there is adequate primary literature about it. Your goal
here is to bring together several publications, think carefully about how they complement or contradict one another, and put them
together into a coherent, synthetic research review. However, you need to do more than just string a series of critical paper
reviews together. The goal here is to take a body of work, understand it well, and tell a coherent story about the topic
informed by and supported by the best available scientific literature.”
Try to be balanced and fair in your presentation of evidence. You don’t necessarily need to take a strong stance on the issue.
If as you research you find you are really undecided, you may instead write about why there is currently not enough evidence
available on your issue and include a description of what sort of empirical research would be desirable to fully understand the issue.
Quality of writing counts. Please try to make your prose clear and readable. Do not use overly formal language, but also do
not use colloquialisms. Your textbooks are reasonable models for the desired writing style. Your citations and bibliography should
be in APA style. If your citations and bibliography are not in correct APA format, you will be penalized. I have all 4 resources and an outline already done, I just need you to write the paper. I will provide them under the additional materials. This class has really focused on ethics, but mostly on argumentative styles (e.g. ethos, logos, pathos), please cater to an audience looking for these styles.
