This project is one of many that I have been working for my Capstone Project for nursing.

My nursing problem revolves around the increasing incidence rate of pressure ulcers among hospitalized patients in intensive care unit (ICU) and the PICOT question or statement would be: In hospitalized patients in intensive care unit (P), how effective is the use of Sacral Mepilex (or like dressing) (I) compared to no use of Sacral Mepilex (C) in preventing or reducing the incident of pressure ulcers (O) throughout the patient’s stay in ICU (T)? (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2005).

The PICOT is established has:

P: – the nursing problem is the increasing rate of pressure ulcers among patients in intensive care unit (ICU).

I: – the nursing intervention of choice relates to the application of Sacral Mepilex, a type of polyurethane foam dressing that promotes wound healing.

C: – the comparison intervention relates to failure to use Sacral Mepilex (or like dressing) as a method to prevent pressure ulcers.

O: – the overall outcome relates to reduced incidence rate of pressure ulcers among patients in ICU by adopting the intervention of choice, which entails the use Sacral Mepilex

T:- the time relates the entire length of stay of the patient in the intensive care unit.

This assignment has 2 parts the Developing of an Evaluation plan and Disseminating Evidence

Part One:

Using 800 words, discuss methods to evaluate the effectiveness of your proposed solution and variables to be assessed when evaluating project outcomes.

Example: If you are proposing a new staffing matrix that is intended to reduce nurse turnover, improve nursing staff satisfaction, and positively impact overall delivery of care, you may decide the following methods and variables are necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of your proposed solution:

Methods:

1. Survey of staff attitudes and contributors to job satisfaction and dissatisfaction before and after initiating change.

2. Obtain turnover rates before and after initiating change.

3. Compare patient discharge surveys before change and after initiation of change.

Variables:

1. Staff attitudes and perceptions.

2. Patient attitudes and perceptions.

3. Rate of nursing staff turnover.

Develop the tools necessary to educate project participants and to evaluate project outcomes (surveys, questionnaires, teaching materials, PowerPoint slides, etc.).

Part Two:

Using 250 words, summarize your strategy for disseminating the results of the project to key stakeholders and to the greater nursing community.
