Social policies in human services at federal, state, and local levels address social issues for the betterment of human welfare. Reforming social policies is sometimes necessary to better serve individuals. For example, the state of Hawaii has reformed child welfare policies to remove any financial disincentive for adopting foster children, and it has extended the time for former foster youth to apply for and receive higher education benefits.
To prepare for this Application, think about a current (new or reformed) social policy at the federal, state, or local level you related to your Final Project, and think about how this policy impacts your Final Project topic. Search for scholarly resources that support whether or not you believe the policy is for the betterment of human welfare.
