September 11, 2001, is an example that the United States is not immune to the violence of extremist organizations. Despite the obvious emotional attachment many have to that day, it can be used as a learning tool to develop risk assessment and management programs. Many entities were involved in risk assessment leading to the 9/11 events, demonstrating that risk management outcomes within one institution can affect other institutions.
Tasks:
- For this assignment, identify an organization whose risk assessment had an impact on the events of 9/11. You may, consider the risk assessment polices of federal organizations such as the FBI and CIA, as well as local law enforcement, or individual companies risk management plans.
- Research events leading to the 9/11 attacks (i.e., were there any indicators and what was done with the information).
- Identify successes or failures in the systematic risk assessment and management leading to the events of 9/11 and discuss alternatives you may have implemented if you were conducting the risk assessment.
- Be sure to use all knowledge accumulated from the previous module (agency involvement and policies). Include topics presented in this module, such as assessments, proactive and reactive risk management, and the risk of terrorism.
Note: The assignment should be 2–3 pages in length and double-spaced, and the font size should be 12 point. In addition to the 2–3-page assignment, be sure to include a references page in APA format.
