THESIS: Through the goodness of the Almighty Father, monastic life has served as an important and meaningful part of the history of the Church. To say monasticism has influenced many parts of ecclesial life would be an understatement. Nearly everything surrounding the Christian faith including, prayer, liturgy and key aspects of the advancement of the faith owes itself to monasticism. Considering the importance of monastic life, this paper will look at the role of monastic life in the Church with a primary focus on the contributions made by St. Anthony and St. Benedict.
