Civil wars have ravaged the African continent for decades. As a result, resolving protracted civil wars has been a major pre-occupation of policymakers that deal with African affairs. Imagine you are a non-African diplomat drafting a memo to your superiors about the issue of African civil wars. Your memo should accomplish three major tasks:

1) It should explain the causes of African civil wars

2) It should outline the different approaches to resolving African civil wars

3) It should make realistic policy recommendations (at least two) about how external powers can support conflict resolution and recovery in African civil war contexts. Be sure to explain why your recommendations are superior to potential alternatives

The assignment requires some sorcing from in course documents. I will provide some documents to help write this. Additional sourcing will be required. The paper should support its arguments through concrete country examples.
