DESCRIPTION: design your own case study of media history that examines the impact of digital media and culture on mass media in terms of economics, cultural production, and freedom of expression (see: Chapter 16). Digital media and culture includes: digital games, blogging, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Wikipedia, BitTorrent, e-readers, e-books, streaming radio, sampling, hacking, remix culture. Mass media includes: TV, cable, books, motion pictures, sound recording, radio, newspapers (and journalism), Video Games. This project involves independent research on a topic of the student’s choosing that will result in a 6-8 page extended critical examination loosely based on the media analysis process (which includes: research, analysis, interpretation, evaluation and engagement). Read page 577-583 in your text Media and Culture: Mass Communication in the Digital Age for one example of an extended case study.

Students must post as a comment to the home page of the wiki (bodler@miamioh.edu) a brief project proposal that identifies: 1) the form of digital media/cultural practice, 2) the form of mass media, and 3) a summary of two sources by 5:59PM on April 16 (worth 5 points of paper grade).

REQUIREMENTS: 6-8 PAGES, 12 pts., typed, double-spaced, with a title (not a title page). A minimum of five sources cited and correctly formatted placed at the end of the paper in APA Style. One source must be from Mandiberg (Ed.). (2012). The
