To meet learning outcomes
a) Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of the role of an operations manager
b) Evaluate the importance of operations management in delivering organisational performance objectives
c) Critically analyse the use of approaches and techniques within operations management that are appropriate to ensuring effective quality management
Slack, Brandon-Jones and Johnson (2013 p 46) identify five operations performance objectives. Critically discuss whether quality could be perceived as the most important of these performance objectives.
Present a report in which you examine quality management and display a critical understanding of the different approaches and theories. Within the report you should broadly discuss the role of the operations manager and the contribution operations managers make to the achievement of organisational objectives. Show a clear understanding of how various performance objectives will impact on the priorities of any operation, evidencing a range of organisational environments.
Work should be underpinned by real examples and operations and quality management theory.
