Situation: A staff member of the practice discussed HIV testing procedures with a patient in the waiting room, thereby disclosing personal health information (PHI) to others in the waiting room. The physician is concerned about safeguards of patient information, impermissible uses of equipment containing patient information, and unlawful disclosure of patient information. The physician hired you to determine and implement the appropriate corrective action(s).
